Ruth A. McKee, age 104, passed away on Nov. 3, 2015 in Lander, Wyo. The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, November 9th at Faith Lutheran Church, 1600 Sinks Canyon Road, Lander, Wyo.
Ruth was born April 16, 1911 in a farmhouse that her parents built on a farm homesteaded by her grandmother ten miles south of Rushville, Neb. She was the seventh and last living child born to her parents, Chris and Christina (Peterson) Jungck. Longevity ran in the family as her father lived to be 100, passing away in 1963. At the age of 104 she was predeceased by her entire generation.
She attended grade school and junior high in a country school two miles from home in a one classroom school that accommodated grades one through eight with one teacher. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1929 and Chadron State College with a degree in education. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, a country church her family built. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
Ruth taught school for many years starting at the country school which she attended near her birthplace. She also worked as activities director at Poplar Living Center and Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper, Wyo.
In her teaching years she met Woodrow (Mac) Rollins McKee in Sunol, Neb. in 1939. They were married on May 31, 1944. They had a fun, happy marriage for 55 years when Mac passed away.
Ruth was very involved in church activities throughout her life and had many happy memories as a child of Luther League, singing, and other activities at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the country as well as many subsequent Lutheran churches. Ruth played piano daily and played on a piano her father brought home on a horse drawn wagon from Rushville for the Jungck girls during the Depression. She loved music, playing piano, gardening, cooking, and as her kids will attest, she was an excellent cook.
Ruth’s life was an expression of her love of God, her family, church, music, friends and neighbors.
Ruth and Mac had four children, Dean and wife Kathi of Lander, Vern and wife Lynn of Aztec, N.M., Fred and wife Patti of Montrose, Colo. and daughter Alatia of Albuquerque, N.M. They had five grandchildren, Mark McKee, Mike McKee, Michelle Nipko, Matt McKee and Luke McKee. They also had six great grandchildren and approximately seventy nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Westward Heights Memorial Committee, in care of Hudson’s Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, Wyoming 82520.
