Raymond A. Leisy, 89, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, September 23, 2011, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Raymond was born June 7, 1922, in Ellsworth, NE to John and Martha (Kicken) Leisy. He went into ranching immediately out of school and later moved from the ranch at Ellsworth to the Storm Lake Ranch, south of Alliance in 1949.
He was a 4-H leader and also a 4-H Council Member. He worked with Great Plains Program to improve land and carrying capacity of animals. He broke and trained many horses as riding horses and hunted coyotes, which were his favorite pastimes. He looked to improve the quality of his cattle and placed many calves with 4-H kids. He received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award in 2009 for 100 years of continuous family ranch ownership from the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation.
Raymond married Betty Gilbert June 11, 1944, in Alliance, NE and raised four children, Raymond “Chuck”, Donna, Larry, and Paula. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Alliance, and when they retired to Scottsbluff in 1993, they attended Grace Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Raymond “Chuck” (Elaine Stone) Leisy of Alliance, NE and their children, Stacey (Todd) Tiensvold, Alliance, NE, Travis (Alicia) and children Tyler and Trevor; son, Larry Leisy, and his children Chris (Michelle) Leisy and son Corey, St. Lawrence, SD, and Cindy (Travis) Sabrosky, and son Tyson of Ellsworth, NE; daughter, Donna Wall of Julesburg, CO and her daughter Shelle (Mark) Heidemann, Big Springs, NE; daughter, Paula Mann, Lincoln, NE and her children, Sheila Mann and daughter Jasmine, Scottsbluff, NE Christi Grubb and son Trayten, Lincoln, NE and David “Andy” (Melissa) Mann in the Marines in Omaha, NE and their children, Michael, Jaden, Taylor and Trinity, brother, Albert Leisy, sisters, Lucille (Al) Fletcher, Brooksville, FL and Shirley (Ron) Drimmel, Rapid City, SD; sisters-in-law, Rita Muhm, Laona Perrin and Helen Kienzle, all of Alliance, and numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John and Alvin, sister, Ellen Payton, and grandson, Corey Leisy.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Grace Chapel in Scottsbluff with Pastor Rich Peterson officiating. A committal service will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Point Church on Highway 27, north of Ellsworth, NE with interment in the Pleasant Point Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Grace Chapel or to Pleasant Point Church.
Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel between 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 2:00 p.m. until service time at Pleasant Point Church on Wednesday.
