Raymond Michael “Mike” Davis, age 83, of Merriman, Neb. passed away on Sept. 19, 2016, in the Chadron Community Hospital from complications of pulmonary fibrosis.
Mike was born on Dec. 4, 1932, at home in Brewster, Neb. His parents are Ora Kaywood and Anna Elizabeth McCormick Davis. His siblings are Lila, Lucille, Frank, Carol, Donna and Marrianne.
Mike graduated from Dunning High School in 1951. He married Erma Leone Chase on Feb. 2, 1953, in the St. Anselm Catholic Church in Anselmo, Neb. Their union was blessed with six children. His places of employment included working on ranches, doing construction, Merriman Public School custodian and then retired from the Nebraska Department of Roads after 22 years of service. Mike and Erma lived in Dunning, Merriman and Gordon, Neb. He enjoyed attending his grandkids activities, loved horses and loved to play card games. Dad was best known for his mischievous smile and taking grandkids fishing at the Cottonwood Lake.
Dad is lovingly survived by his spouse Erma of Merriman, Neb.; five children Mike (Glenda) Davis Jr. of Lincoln, Neb., David Davis of Tacoma, Wash., Ken (Gayle) Davis of Chadron, Neb., Perry Davis of Tecumseh, Neb., Anna (Loren) Haynes of Martin, S.D.; twenty grandchildren and forty-two great grandchildren. Sisters Lila Cotten of St Paul, Minn., Lucille Reid of Sacramento, Calif., Donna (Jim) Knudsen of Hemet, Calif., and Marrianne (Roger) Yeager of Faribault, Minn.
Mike was preceded in death by his son Joe Davis, infant sister Carol Davis, brother Frank Davis, parents Ora and Anna Davis.
Rosary and wake will be held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wednesday, October 5th at 5:30 p.m. in Broken Bow, Neb.
Memorial service will be held at St Anselm’s Catholic Church, Thursday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m. in Anselmo, Neb. Burial will be next to his parents and son in the St Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Broken Bow, Neb.
Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will establish a memorial.
