Mayebelle Geraldine Sterns Hooper, 91, of North Platte, Neb., went home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 6, 2018.
She was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Hyannis, Neb., to Floyd W. “Hap” Sterns and Gertrude Mae Kline Sterns. Mayebelle attended Hyannis High School and graduated in 1945 and began teaching rural schools in the area. In May 1982 she received her Bachelor degree from Chadron State College. She continued to teach rural schools in and around Rushville until 1988 when she retired.
On June 20, 1948, she married Noelin Hooper in Alliance, Neb. They lived on the Hooper Ranch until Mayebelle moved to Rushville.
Mayebelle had her ups and downs but in her heart, she was a woman devoted to the Lord. She is survived by missionaries far and wide, and her legacy for the gospel will live on. She leaves this world having lived a life worthy of celebration. Mayebelle loved to travel, loved her church, and staying in touch with all of her family and friends.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters, Morgan and Nancy of Chester, N.H., Lyndon of Lakeside, Neb., Holly and Randy McCoy of North Platte, Neb., Alan of Elwood, Neb., and Vanessa and Dwayne Mays of Ogallala, Neb., 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon, Neb.
