Dennis Driscoll, age 77, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO. He was the son of Charles & Rita Driscoll of Madison, SD born on February 22, 1941 in Madison.
He enjoyed playing music mostly the piano, country dancing, working with wood, golfing, bowling, and watching baseball.
Dennis received a BA in Education from Dakota State University, Madison, SD. He taught music at various schools throughout South Dakota. He taught on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for 10+ years initially at Red Cloud Indian School and later at Oglala Community School.
His love of music continued after teaching by working for the San Francisco Music Box Company. He managed multiple stores in Florida.
Dennis was a naturally bearded professional Santa Claus for the Cherry Hills Programs company. For over 10 years he kept the magic of Santa alive for thousands of children across the United States.
After his retirement he continued to enjoy his hobbies of woodworking, exercising his mind with crossword puzzles, and following the Colorado Rockies. He also loved going to see musicals, dance performances, concerts and attending dinner theatre.
Dennis’ personality was best described as Jolly Grumpy. His grandchildren gave him the nickname of Grumpa.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Mike and Sean, step-daughter Audria Lawson, and great-granddaughter Olivia Dickinson.
He is survived by his wife Renee; brother, Jerry (Rita) of Sioux Falls, SD; three children Jeff (Kristi) of Orlando, FL, Larry of Riverton, WY, and Sheri Ehlers (Ted) of Sterling, CO; three step-children Glory Walters, Wendy Warren and Nona McDonough; twenty-five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
