Gerald (Jerry) Martin Flathman, Jr. 87, passed away Thursday March 7, 2019 at the Willson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia.
Pastor Flathman was born February 19, 1932 in St. Paul MN, the son of the late Gerald Flathman, Sr. and Agnes Gadow Flathman. Mr. Flathman was a graduate of Johnson High School in St. Paul, MN, he attended Dartmouth College in NJ, St. Thomas College in MN, and was a graduate of McAllister College in St. Paul, MN. He then attended and graduated from Wartburg Seminary in
Dubuque, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Katherine Cosic.
Upon graduating from Wartburg Seminary, he served Lutheran parishes in Chadron (NE), Kansas City (MO), Rushville/Hay Springs (NE), and Leader (MN). Upon retirement, he served several interim parishes. Jerry was a biblical scholar and enjoyed sharing his faith.
He was an avid sportsman and sports official. He also enjoyed gardening and any home improvement projects--especially those outdoors. Jerry knew no stranger and welcomed the opportunity to talk with anyone.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor A. Flathman of Cuthbert, two daughters, Claudia Jean (Rick) Busch of Maple Grove, MN and Kathryn Elizabeth (Rick) Ginestra of Kansas City, MO, a stepdaughter, Anne Marie Cegon; two sons, Marcus (Oksana) Flathman of Santa Barbara, CA and Jeffrey Gerald (Coleen) Flathman of Overland Park, KS, two stepsons, Peter Alexander Hansen, and Mark Louis (R. Debra) Hansen; 14 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
