Norma Lee (Reeves)  (Davis) Child

Norma was born in a sod house northwest of Gordon to Eldred Sr. and Ehrma Reeves. Norma passed away February 22, 2020, at Gordon Memorial Hospital. She attended grade school at White Lodge School District #86, and graduated from Gordon High School in 1947.

She married Norman Davis on January 19, 1948, in Rushville, Neb. They lived in the Rushville area until 1951; they then moved to a farm northwest of Batesland, S.D., and then later into Batesland. Four children were born to this union, Merna Lee (Bernie) Ganshert, Owen Clifford (Marlene) Davis, Gary Melvin Davis and Glenda Kay Davis Capler. In 1963, the family moved to Gordon, Neb., to send the kids to school.

From July 1963 to July 1964 she worked for Central Finance as clerk cashier, and from July 1964 to October 1964 she worked at Chevrolet Garage. In October 1964 she went to work at the Gordon State Bank, where she advanced from bookkeeper to cashier and loan officer. After Norma retired in 1989, she worked on a part-time basis from 1989-1992.

Norma and Norman were divorced in September 1970, and on May 29, 1982, she married Kenneth Child.

Preceding her in death were her parents, son Gary Davis, half-brothers Willie and Francis Reeves, Grant Rash and sister-in-law Dorotha Rash, brother-in-law Kenneth Allison, half sisters Edith Reeves, Olive (Reeves) Burke, Violet (Reeves) Curtis. Kenneth Child.

She is survived by her children, Merna, Owen and Glenda, grandchildren Chris, Scot and Eric Ganshert, Rhonda Johnson, Jeff and Greg Davis, Julie Linders, Shawn Capler and Jaime Lebanoff, step children Sharon Fochtman, Bob Child, Sandra and Tim Child and their families.

Oh yes, Norma never dyed her hair.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2020, 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Gordon with burial in the Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Gordon United Methodist Church, the Gordon Senior Citizen Center or Parkview Lodge Assisted Living and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
