William Marshall Jaggers

William Marshall Jaggers, of Hay Springs, Nebraska, and San Carlos, Mexico, died at the age of 79 on May 4, 2012 at Dobson House Hospice in Chandler, Arizona, of complications from lung cancer.

William (Bill) Jaggers was born on August 19, 1932, in Alliance, Nebraska, the middle son of Jenny and Robert Jaggers. Bill attended country elementary schools and Hay Springs High School, and was lucky to have the late Betty Housh as one of his teachers. He attended Colorado State University and served his county stateside and in Germany in the USAF.

In 1954, Bill married Billie Rae Brownell, had six children, and built a very successful working ranch first with his brothers, Robert and Richard Jaggers, both successful agricultural professionals. Then with his sons, Lance and Steve, and daughter Andrea and their families, he continued to build the ranching operation to include a ranch/farm/feedlot with registered and commercial Angus and Brangus cattle.

Bill and Billie sold the ranch in the mid-90s and moved San Carlos, Mexico, where they could build a home by the ocean. They spent the rest of their lives gardening, fishing and playing golf with their friends.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, aunts and uncles, and his wife, Billie Rae, who passed in November 2008 of complications from colon cancer. Mr. Jaggers is survived by all six children -- Andrea Rising, Terrie Wood, Marsha Gautney, Cathie Churchill, Lance Jaggers, and Steve Jaggers -- and their spouses; by sixteen grandchildren and nine (soon to be eleven) great-grandchildren; and by his brothers, Robert and Richard Jaggers, their spouses and children.

Bill’s children will have a Memorial Celebration in Hay Springs on Saturday, August 18 from 2-4 p.m., at the park during the Hay Springs Friendly Festival. Please stop by our tent in the park as we celebrate the lives of Bill and Billie Rae along with all the other old cowboys, ranchers, and friends who continue to pave the way for all of us. Come tell us a story!!
