Harold Clifford Hardin, 85, passed away February 15th, 2021, at Monument Health Rapid City in South Dakota. He was born May 2nd, 1935, at the family homestead in Gordon Nebraska to Clifford and Doris (Reitz) Hardin. He was the oldest of five children.
Harold attended school in Rushville, Nebraska and left during his senior year. He joined the Army January 28th, 1954 and was discharged January 27th, 1956. While in the Army he was an air defense artilleryman at the Presidio of San Francisco, California.
Harold was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Cushing February 24th, 1955 in Salem Oregon. To this union they had four children, Charles (Rick), Sharon, Jodi, and Cory. After Betty passed away, he married Marcia (Carter) Hardin on November 28th, 1986 at the Hot Springs VA Chapel.
Harold was always a hard worker. During high school he worked for local ranchers and farmers helping train horses and working in the fields. He also ran the projector at the movie theater in Rushville. After the Army he drove truck for 35 years working for several companies including Swift Co, Assoc. Grocers and ITL. During this time, he hauled cattle and groceries. In 1978 he joined his father at United Materials where he poured concrete and hauled gravel. In 1989 he started his own business, Harold’s Trenching, where he put in waterlines for farmers and ranchers in Nebraska and South Dakota. He retired from trenching in 2018. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, he started working part time at the Rushville Sale Barn until 2020. At the time of his passing, he was working part time for Vincent Feed Lot Services where he drove truck.
During Harold’s free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and putting his wood working skills to good use making things for family and friends. He joined a bowling league with his wife and took her out dancing monthly so he could show her off. He was very proud of his family and utilized every opportunity to school them during game nights.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Betty, sister Mary, brother Ralph, and granddaughter Shannon. He is survived by his wife Marcia, children Charles Hardin of Scottsbluff, NE, Sharon (Steve) Higgins of Tucson, AZ, Jodi Subjeck of Toledo, WA, Cory Hardin of Rushville, NE, 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held February 19, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Rushville. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery with military honors. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Rushville American Legion.
