Dixie Lee Franklin, 72, of Gordon, Nebraska, passed away March 17, 2012, at Crestview Care Center in Chadron, Nebraska, after a long battle with illness.

She was born June 4, 1939 to Dayrold and Dora Sipp. Dixie grew up in Gordon and the surrounding area where she attended school. She loved cooking so much and helping others. She had many cooking jobs over the years at the White Rose Cafe, Otto & Mickey’s, Hinn’s Cafe and Gordon Countryside Care, where she was also an CNA and loved helping

Judy A Lewis, 66, of Emmett, Idaho, died at home on Friday, March 9, 2012.

She was born to James and Julia Larson at home 10 miles North of Rushville, Neb., June 18, 1945.

Judy had 4 brothers: Paul, Don, Lon, Jimmy, and 3 sisters: Janice, Laura, and Jeannie. She went to country school and later moved into town in 1953.

Genevieve H. David

Genevieve H. David, age 95, was a longtime resident of Chadron and most recently at the SilverRidge Care Center in Gretna passed away on March 21, 2012. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1916, she was the oldest child of Rev. Joseph and Mary Kacere. She was married to Dr. Richard David in 1944 and spent several years in Rushville, Nebraska before moving with her husband to Chadron in 1950. Their children Rick and Sue were raised in Chadron. Charles Allen (Chuck) Oakley, 67, of Lander, Wyoming, passed away in his home Tuesday, January 17, 2012, surrounded by his family.

Chuck was born on August 22, 1944, to Charles and Geraldine Oakley. Chuck’s early childhood in Kemmerer, Wyoming, instilled in him a passion for Wyoming, the outdoors, hunting, trapping and fishing.

She was born Sarah Naomi O’Rourk in Gordon on September 17, 1918, and was named after her grandmother, Sarah, and her mother, Naomi (Yockey). Verda Strong Musfelt, 87, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Chadron Community Hospital.

Verda was born the eighth of nine children to Walter and Mary (Schneider) Strong on June 8, 1924, in Clinton, Neb.

She is survived by her two sisters, Marjie Shannon of Rushville and Evelyn Tyndall of San Diego, Calif., daughter-in-law, Phyllis Musfelt of Rushville and son-in-law, Tim Horn of Hemingford. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melanie Murdock of Texas, Todd Murdock of Ind.
