Correne E. Wilhite, 67, of Gordon, Nebraska, died April 28, 2012, at Gordon Memorial Hospital. She was born June 29, 1944, to Leona and Harley Wilhite.

Correne graduated high school from Gordon High School and then attended Bryan Memorial Hospital and graduated in 1967. She was an RN at Gordon Memorial Hospital for 40 years, and she retired in 2007. Terrance Lee Shannon

Terrance Lee “Terry” Shannon, 80, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Box Butte General Hospital.

Terry was born on April 13, 1931, at Rushville, Nebraska, to Forrest and Tressa (Snodgrass) Shannon. He graduated from Rushville High School. When he was 18 years old, he contracted polio. Helen Lerene Tripp

Helen Lerene Tripp, 90, of Belle Fourche, SD, and formerly of Gordon, left her earthly home to be with her heavenly family on March 12, 2012. She was born on February 20, 1922 in Redmond, Utah, to Semon and Fuchsia Jensen. She was one of eight children. She attended school in Redmond and eventually graduated from Sevier High School in Redmond.

Phyllis Jerene Janssen

Phyllis Jerene Janssen, 86 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Chadron Community Hospital. Phyllis was born on March 28, 1925, at Rushville, NE to Lloyd and Mabel (Tiensvold) Talbot. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1944. Phyllis was a very kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a wonderful cook which was clearly evident as she worked as a cook for 29 years for the Rushville Public Schools. She really enjoyed


Caroline Sandoz Pifer

Caroline Sandoz, daughter of Jules and Mary (Fehr) Sandoz was born May 21, 1910 at the “River Place” in Sheridan County Nebraska. Caroline received her early education in a rural school and graduated from Gordon High School. She then attended Chadron Normal School and taught in rural schools for a number of years. Education was very important to Caroline and many years later she enrolled in classes again at Chadron State Colleges and graduated in 1981.

Laresta Wickman Spear

Berniece Laresta Perry was born October 7, 1915 on the Modisett Ranch, south of Rushville Nebraska, to Harry and Agnes Perry. She had one sister, Lavina, who was seven years older. The family moved from Rushville to Eli in 1924 by train with all their belongings and livestock. She grew up and attended school in Eli through the ninth grade. Laresta boarded in Gordon and attended Gordon High School, graduating with the class of 1933. After high school she attended Chadron Normal College.



Marilyn Weyhrich

Marilyn Weyhrich was born in Winnebago, Neb., to Elmer “Dude” and Helen (Leedom) Bahr. She attended school in Winnebago and South Sioux City, Neb. She was married to the late Eugene Barge in 1950. Three children were born to that union, Barry, Belinda “Bea” and Bridget. She married Rolland Weyhrich in 1975.

Marilyn worked most of her career with Cohn Wholesale, where she worked in many capacities for nearly 40 years until she retired in 2005. She started with Cohn Wholesale at the Corner Store


Brian Lee Lafler

Brian Lee Lafler, age 59, of Alliance, Nebraska died March 17, 2012 at his home following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

He was born on July 10, 1952, in the town of Sidney, Nebraska to the late Charles and Edna (Groeger) Lafler. Dixie Lee Franklin

Dixie Lee Franklin, 72, of Gordon, Nebraska, passed away March 17, 2012, at Crestview Care Center in Chadron, Nebraska, after a long battle with illness.

She was born June 4, 1939 to Dayrold and Dora Sipp. Dixie grew up in Gordon and the surrounding area where she attended school. She loved cooking so much and helping others. She had many cooking jobs over the years at the White Rose Cafe, Otto & Mickey’s, Hinn’s Cafe and Gordon Countryside Care, where she was also an CNA and loved helping


Judy Ann Larson Lewis

Judy A Lewis, 66, of Emmett, Idaho, died at home on Friday, March 9, 2012.

She was born to James and Julia Larson at home 10 miles North of Rushville, Neb., June 18, 1945.

Judy had 4 brothers: Paul, Don, Lon, Jimmy, and 3 sisters: Janice, Laura, and Jeannie. She went to country school and later moved into town in 1953.

Her father passed away in 1957 and the family moved to WY. After 1 year they moved back to Rushville. Judy cooked on ranches and worked as a waitress in cafes. She was married


Genevieve H. David

Genevieve H. David, age 95, was a longtime resident of Chadron and most recently at the SilverRidge Care Center in Gretna passed away on March 21, 2012. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1916, she was the oldest child of Rev. Joseph and Mary Kacere. She was married to Dr. Richard David in 1944 and spent several years in Rushville, Nebraska before moving with her husband to Chadron in 1950. Their children Rick and Sue were raised in Chadron. Gen was active in the civic life of the Chadron community
