Dorothy Bruce

On June 16th, 1931, Paul and Eva Thorsen welcomed their fourth child and second daughter on the family farm southwest of Gordon, Nebraska.  They named their baby girl Dorothy Alice.  In addition to her parents, she was welcomed into the world by her two older brothers, Don, Dwight, and her older sister, Esther.  

Dorothy attended country school through the 8th grade and in 1945 started her freshman year at Gordon High School.  She eventually graduated with the GHS class of


Roger William Voss

Roger William Voss was born on September 27, 1939 in Hay Springs, Nebraska to Irene Sylvia Holzberger Voss and Julius Christian Voss He left this earth on December 25, 2020 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was a victim of COVID.

Roger went to grade school at the Lone Pine School and graduated from Gordon High School. He was a Gordon resident. Roger drove truck and farmed for many years. He had a lifelong love of horses and had registered Quarter Horses for 50 years.

Lois May McConaughey Wiley

Lois May McConaughey Wiley was born November 1, 1947 to Joe and Sarah McConaughey.  Lois grew up on the family ranch west of Merriman with her older brother Jim.  She spent her youth riding horses and helping with every aspect of the ranch.  Lois was a gifted horsewoman and a neighbor once said it was good to see her along when working cattle because Joe and Jim were often on a colt but Lois would always be in the right place at the right time.   Lois enjoyed rodeoing and


Julie A. Gall

Julie was born October 28, 1949, in Rushville, Nebraska to Dexter and Alice (Galbraith) Winter. She graduated from Rushville High School and went on to attend the Lincoln School of Commerce. 

On July 11, 1970, she married Joseph A. Gall in Lincoln. They made their home in Schuyler where Julie worked at the Schuyler State Bank until their children were born. She then became a loving daycare provider for many area children, many with whom she still is in contact with to this day. She had


Frieda E. Ladely

Memorial service for Frieda E. Ladely, 86, of Norfolk will be held at a later date in Gordon, Nebraska in April of 2021. Frieda passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at her residence in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements.

Frieda was born on December 21, 1934 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Ferdinand and Marjorie (Martin) Knueppel.

Archie F. Collins

Archie F. Collins, age 82, passed away January 10, 2021, in Hot Springs, SD at the Seven Sisters Living Center surrounded by his family.

Archie was born on July 25, 1938, to Archie and Wynfred Collins. After graduating from high school in 1956, he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959. After discharge he attended Chadron State College for one year before purchasing a ranch west of Hot Springs, SO, in 1960. While pursuing his life-long dream of ranching, Archie also worked


Richard Bair

Richard was born on a farm in Lynn Grove, Iowa, on February 4, 1936. His family later moved to Superior, Iowa, where he went to school and worked on the family farm. Richard was Valedictorian of his 1954 class. Shortly after, he married his high school sweetheart, Lois on December 16, 1956, celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary last month. They went on to have three children: Steve, Shelly, and Scott.

Richard started his automotive career as a field representative for GMAC in Neb. In


John Drury

John “Jack” Edward Thomas Drury, 94, passed away at Gateway Senior Living in Lincoln,

Nebraska on December 20, 2020. He was born in Gordon NE in 1926 to Claude and Blanch

(Abbott) Drury.

Jack spent much of his life in the Gordon area. He left his senior year of high school to join the

Navy during WWII. After returning from the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Dena Hooper. Together they split their time between a ranch out of Gordon and a house in town.



Jonathan Sherer

Jonathan Michael Sherer was born on September 27, 2000 in Fredericksburg, VA to Robert Michael Sherer, Jr. and Malinda Johnson (Sherer) Smith. He passed away in his home in North Platte, NE due to complications from his Type 1 Diabetes on December 27, 2020. 

Jon, as his Grandpa Doyle nicknamed him, was always a smart boy. He learned things so quickly, we started him in school at age four. Jon’s stepdad Ken helped Malinda raise Jon and his brother Joshua from ages two and three. That


Andrea Isham Voss

Andrea Isham Voss (Blondie) was born on November 18, 1955 in Chadron Nebraska to Robert W. Isham and Eleanor Joy (Norman) Isham. She attended Gordon High School until her junior year, ultimately graduating from Greeley High School in Colorado. She continued her education at Seattle University in Washington.  Her junior year she studied abroad, keeping a family tradition alive by going on Semester at Sea, which also helped start the legacy for the Isham grandchildren. Maxine American Horse

Maxine Doris (Vincent) American Horse, 66, Rushville, NE died December 25, 2020 at the Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, NE. Maxine was born April 12, 1954 in Rushville, NE to August and Evelyn (Furman)

Vincent. She grew up on the family ranch south of Rushville. She skipped kindergarten because, as she put it, “She excelled in sandbox”. She spent her grade school years at the Mill school and graduated from Rushville High School in 1971, where she held the girls shot put record


Lorraine (Greenwood) Thomas

Lorraine (Greenwood) Thomas was born October 28, 1936 to Claude H. and Mary (Bourne) Greenwood in Rushville, Nebraska. For almost two months, she was simply called “Baby Girl” because her Grandpa Bourne was in Virginia and he said “Don’t name that baby girl until I get home.”  As Christmas approached, family members wrote their favorite names on a piece of paper and put them in a hat.  For fun, Lorraine’s dad put the name “Suzie Running
