Jimmy E. Scott

Jimmy E. Scott, 81, of Rushville, Nebraska, died Saturday, October 12, 2019, at his home in Rushville. He was born December 6, 1937, in Amarillo, Texas, to William E. and Opal Scott.

On March 12, 1989, he married Linda McCloud in Olathe, Colorado, and moved to Chadron, Nebraska, in 2000, and later moved to Rushville when he retired.

Survivors include his wife Linda of Rushville, five children, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. No service will be held at this time.


Mich Gehrig

Mich A. Gehrig, 58, of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., died suddenly on October 6, 2019, in Iowa while enjoying one last ride on his Harley.

Mich was born November 27, 1960, to Vera and Myron Gehrig in Nebraska.  He graduated from high school in Hay Springs, Nebraska, with the class of 1979.  He married Patty Middleton in Gordon, Nebraska, on July 4, 1987, and together they went on to raise three beautiful children.  Mich is a retired veteran and proudly served in the Army National Guard


Ruth Flueckinger Spillman

Ruth Margurite Flueckinger Spillman, affectionately known as “Grandma Rocket”, passed away in South Jordan, Utah, at the age of 97, on September 23, after having lived a life dedicated the Lord and her family.

She rejoined her husband, Merle, whom she has missed for the past 47 years.

Ruth was born in Rushville, Nebraska, on February 10, 1922, to Walter and Esther Flueckinger.  She was the second child of six, grew up on a farm and graduated from Hay Springs High School


Gilbert “Gil” Lavern Poese

Funeral Services for Gil Poese, age 93 of O’Neill, were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October, 7, 2019, at the O’Neill Community Center with Pastor Mike Durre officiating. 

Burial will follow in the O’Neill Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team and the O’Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93 Legion Riders. 

Visitation was Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.

Veronica Virginia Landes

Veronica Virginia Landes, age 78, of Arthur, passed away, Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at the Aurora Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado.

Veronica was born March 20, 1941, in Big Springs, Nebraska, to Clarence and Dola “LaVern” (Barnts) Krull.

Veronica attended school at District #62, south of Brule until 8th grade, then attended Brule High School and graduated in 1958.

On July 5, 1958, she married her 8th grade sweetheart, Duane Landes at the United Methodist Church in Ogallala


Carol Faith Herrera (Iron Rope)

Carol was born Karen Kay High Hawk to Abel Iron Rope Sr. and Vera High Hawk in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where her parents were working in the potato fields at the time. She grew up in Alliance, Nebraska with her siblings: Rita, Edwin, Crystal, Abel Jr., Darlene, Peter, and Sandor. She worked the fields hauling bales, harvesting and sorting potatoes, and working in the fields of beets and beans. She met the love of her life (and sometimes the bane of her existence—laugh) Tillo Herrera with


Frances Thyne

Frances Thyne, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.

Frances was born November 19, 1921, to Iver and Florence (Buckley) Lingwood in Crawford, Nebraska.

Frances Lingwood married Robert Bachmann in 1940. She later married Bill Thyne in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.

Frances worked for Dr. Owen for 20 years as a medical assistant in Hay Springs and Gordon. This was the beginning of caring for others


Marjorie Helen Anderson

Marjorie Helen (McCann) Anderson was born June 28, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa. She was the eldest of three children born to Hal and Marjorie McCann. A few years later the family settled in Des Moines, Iowa, where “Dolly,” as she was known to family and friends, lived a charmed childhood, biking, skating, sledding, swimming, riding the streetcar to dances, and downtown to the movie theatres. After graduating from Urbandale High School, she worked at Banker’s Life Insurance Company


Pat Douglas Hebbert

Pat Douglas Hebbert, age 61, of Ashby, Nebraska passed away, Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Monaco Care and Rehabilitation Center in Denver, Colorado.

Memorial Services will be held, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the Ashby Congregational Church in Ashby with Kevin Burton of Scottsbluff, Neb., officiating. 

The family chose cremation. Interment will be held in the Ashby Cemetery. 

Memorials are suggested to the Grant County Rescue Squad: P.O. Box 164-Hyannis, NE


Judy Ryan

On the morning of September 11, 2019, Judy Ryan of Chadron passed away at the age of 62. Judy was born in Chadron to Allen “Pat” and Rita Baker.

Judy was a hard worker and a happy person. She lover her Guernsey cows, birds, dogs and cats. She was known for her butter making and good cooking. Judy was an avid gardener and canned many quarts of vegetables. She liked feeding the birds, and taking care of her yard and home. Judy was a wonderful person that was loved and will be missed


Scott Jefferson Kernick

Scott Jefferson Kernick was born May 18, 1957, in Atkinson, Nebraska, to Ray and Marcy Kernick. He passed away on September 17, 2019, at his home in Gordon, Nebraska.

He attended school in Atkinson and graduated from West Holt High School. He attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk and Kearney State College.

He was baptized and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Atkinson. He had two brothers, Brian of Gordon and Brad of Kearney. He was married to Debbie Shedeed on June 19


Don Edward Rager

Don Edward Rager, a Wellington, Kansas, resident for 54 years and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi - St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 94.

Don was born the son of Arthur Wayne and Selena Rachel (Kyles) Rager on Saturday, January 24, 1925, on a farm four miles South of Gordon, Nebraska. It was here that Don was raised by his mother after his father passed away when he was only one and a half
