James Joseph Benedickt

James Joseph “Jim” Benedickt, 91, of Gordon, Nebraska, passed away February 18, with his wife of 66 years, Audrey, by his side.

Jim was born in 1921 in Dunlap, Iowa to JJ and Ida-Hinkel Benedickt. As a young child he moved to Omaha and attended St. Bridgett’s Elementary School. Helen Louise DeWolf Johnson passed away on February 22, 2012 in Grand Island, Nebraska after a short illness.

On October 6, 1925 a baby girl was born to Harry and Cora DeWolfe on their ranch located in the Northwest corner of Sheridan County. This baby girl’s arrival was witnessed by her 2 half brothers, Gerald and Wendell, her 2 half sisters Evelyn and Dorothy and her sister Margaret.

Virgil William Drabbels

Virgil William Drabbels, 89, of Hay Springs passed away March 3, 2012 at Pioneer Manor.

Virgil was born to William and Clara (Gottier) Drabbels on September 10, 1922 in Thedford, Nebraska, the oldest of three children. Later the family moved northwest of Gordon in the Milan and Pleasant Hill community where he attended country school and graduated from Pleasant Hill high school in 1939.

Floyd John Kling

Floyd John Kling, 86, was born on January 10, 1925, to Arnold and Augusta Kling on the C.W. Smith farm west of Gordon known as the Hardin farm. Floyd joined the Lord on December 31, 2011, after residing at Pioneer Manor, Hay Springs, for less than two days.

Floyd attended Pleasant Hill School and never lived more than four miles from the home place in the Pleasant Hill District for all 86 years of his life.

Rachel was born September 26, 1988 in Denver, Colorado the daughter of Michael and Linda (Wunschel) Vinton. Dollie McDaniel of Redmond, Oregon, died January 10, 2012, at the age of 89. She was born August 8, 1922, to Amil and Opal (Gillam) Novotny in Hay Springs, Nebraska. Norma Jean (Davis) Johnson was born on March 30, 1936, to William and Lulu (Spindler) Perreten in Rushville, Nebraska. She grew up in the town of Rushville, where her mother had owned and operated the Perreten Nursing Home. She graduated from Rushville High School in 1954.
