Just three wrestlers competed on Saturday at the Dunning Knights Invite, but two of the three came home with hardware. Joey Johnson won the title in the 132 lb. weight class, while Stevin Horrocks finished 2nd in the 220 lb. class. Johnson won his first two matches by major decision over Ryan Smith of Cedar Valley and Cord Hesseltine of Sandhills-Thedford and pinned Garrett Fries of Southwest in 5:31 to advance to the championship match. In the finals, Johnson won an 8-5 decision over Colt Lewis of Stapleton-McPherson County.
In the 138 lb. weight class Jake Johnson won his first match of the day by pin against Austin Simkins of Stapleton-McPherson County but lost his next two matches to Tanner Stec of North Central and Tjade Rodocker of Sandhills-Thedford.
In the 220 lb. weight class, Stevin Horrocks earned his second place finish by pinning Will Stickney of Stapleton in 33 seconds and winning a 3-0 decision over Levi Peterson of Stapleton-McPherson County, before losing a tough 3-2 match against Rulon Taylor of Medicine Valley.
The Hawks will be in action again on Saturday in Mullen.
