The Gordon-Rushville Lady Mustangs hosted the Hay Springs Hawks in volleyball Monday night in Gordon. The two Sheridan County teams put on a great show for the fans, keeping it close to the last points of the fifth set.
The Lady Hawks took a commanding lead, winning the first two sets 25-19 and 25-8. They continued to control the game, leading through most of the third set on their way to what seemed would be a three set sweep, but late in the third set the Lady Mustangs caught fire and battled back to tie the score at 24. The Mustangs added two more to take the set 26-24.
The Lady Mustangs kept their momentum going into the fourth set, but the Hawks were right there with them, exchanging points until the Lady Mustangs finally edged the Hawks out at the end 25-21. In the fifth and final set, it was still anyone’s game, with neither team taking a large lead. Despite a valiant effort by the Lady Hawks, the Mustangs took the win with a 15-13 fifth set victory.
The Lady Hawks will now host Crawford on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for their Homecoming game. It will also be parents’ night for the Lady Hawks.
The Lady Mustangs will host Alliance and Valentine in a triangular on Thursday afternoon, starting at 4 p.m.
