Hawk grapplers compete hard at State

The state contention of Hawk grapplers competed hard at the state tournament last weekend despite not placing. Levi Ray lost in his opening match to Mason Klingelhoefer of Amherst, the eventual runner-up, in a pin. In Ray’s next match he fell to Garrett Sunderup of Fullerton, also in fall. Levi Ray finished his season with a 25-17 record. Joey Johnson opened his tournament against Evan Aschoff of Plainview and was defeated in a fall. In his next match, Johnson lost to Cody Brouilette of McCool Junction in an 8-0 decision. Johnson finished the season at 24-19.

In the 220 lb. class, Stevin Horrocks opened the tournament with a 51 second pin over Scott Adams of Freeman. In the quarterfinals, Horrocks lost in a fall to the eventual State Champion Jarrod Bazata of Howells. Horrocks bounced back to win his next match over James Starr of Mullen in a pin in 4:58 before losing by fall to Kajan Pfaffer of Amherst. Horrocks finishes the season 35-5.
