The Gordon-Rushville Mustang basketball team split their two games last weekend as they fell to Bridgeport and defeated Morrill as they get ready for sub-district play. The Mustangs faced a big challenge on Friday night when they hosted the 15-4 Bridgeport Bulldogs. Bridgeport had beaten the Mustangs 73-31 earlier this season in the Alliance Holiday Tournament.
Bridgeport was simply unstoppable as they opened up a 28-8 lead in the first quarter on their way to a 38-15 halftime score. The lead grew to 53-23 at the start of the fourth quarter and reserves for both teams saw some varsity minutes in the final frame as the Bulldogs coasted to a 62-41 victory. Kyle Anderson was the Mustangs’ leading scorer with 9 points. Brandon Bailey and Barry Toczek scored 6, Ryan Schwarting and Chaz Piper scored 3, and Devin Dykes, Lex Haller, and Sam Piper each added 2.
The Mustangs faced a much more manageable opponent on Saturday night when they traveled to Morrill to face the Lions. The Mustangs came away with a convincing 55-30 win and improved their record to 5-13 on the season. Gordon-Rushville will travel to Valentine on Thursday for their final regular season game.
