The Hay Springs Lady Hawks are winding down their basketball season and had a very busy week. The Hawks hosted Hyannis on Tuesday and Crawford on Thursday, then traveled to Garden County on Friday.
The Lady Hawks opened up the busy week when they hosted Hyannis on Tuesday night. The Hawks trailed by just one at the end of the first quarter and kept it close in the second, going into the halftime break trailing 25-29. The Longhorns used a big third quarter to blow the game open and led 38-58 to start the fourth quarter. Hyannis held off the Hawks who battled to the bitter end, but lost the contest 57-44. Whitney Heiting scored 20 to pace the Hawks, Kate Roberts added 12, Stephanie Tlustos scored 9, and Cydney Jancik scored 3.
On Thursday, the Crawford Rams came to town for their second match-up of the season. The second half was close throughout, but the Rams held on for a 46-41 win. Stephanie Tlustos scored 18 to lead the Hawks, Whitney Heiting scored 11, Kate Roberts scored 9, and Jen Scherbarth added 1.
The Lady Hawks finished the week with a win on the road at Garden County as they won by a score of 41-31. The win pushes the Lady Hawks’ record to 8-15 on the season. They will be in action on Tuesday, February 18 when they take on Sioux County in sub-district play.
