Four Sheridan County wrestlers will be returning from the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha sporting medals this year.
Hay Springs' Levi Ray finished 5th at 126 lbs., finishing his junior year with a 33-4 record.
Chris Ray also finished 5th, at 132 lbs., finishing his junior year with a 33-8 record.
Gordon-Rushville's Ken Graham took 6th at 170 lbs., finishing his senior year with a 41-8 record.
Hay Springs' Stevin Horrocks was the area's top place-winner, earning the silver after losing a close championship match 5-3. Horrocks finishes his senior season with a 40-2 record
Update Day 3 - Saturday, Feb. 22: Hay Springs' Levi Ray finished 5th at 126 lbs. after defeating Clayton Dana 9-3.
Chris Ray pinned Thomas Foster in 2:07 to finish 5th at 132 lbs.
Ken Graham was pinned by Kalen Hollopeter in 3:26 to finish 6th at 170 lbs.
Gordon-Rushville's Ken Graham fell to Nick Virka in the consolation semi-finals and will now wrestle Kalen Hollopeter for 5th and 6th.
Hay Springs' Levi Ray lost to Chris Werth 10-2 in the consolation semi-finals and will now wrestle Clayton Dana for 5th and 6th.
Chris Ray lost to Collin Fleecs 7-4 in the consolation semi-finals and will now face Thomas Foster for 5th and 6th.
The Sheridan County Wrestlers continue to do well at the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament, advancing four of the original eight to the final day of the tournament. Hay Springs’ Stevin Horrocks remains undefeated in the tournament and will be competing for the gold tomorrow afternoon in the championships.
In the third round of wrestlebacks at 140 lbs., Cory Rowse of O`Neill won by decision over Gordon-Rushville’s Casey Glassgow 4-3, knocking him out of the tournament. Glassgow finishes the season with a 38-10 record.
At 170 lbs., Gordon-Rushville’s Ken Graham won by decision over Cody Thomas of Wakefield, 4-2. Graham will now face Nick Virka in the consolation semi-finals tomorrow morning for a chance at third or fourth.
Levi Ray of Hay Springs won by decision over Sean Mendlik of Archbishop Bergan at 126 lbs., 6-0. Levi will now face Chris Werth in the consolation semi-finals for a chance at third or fourth in class D.
At 132 lbs., Chris Ray of Hay Springs won by decision over Brody Lewis of Franklin, 5-2. He will now face Collin Fleecs in the consolation semi-finals for a chance at third or fourth.
Hay Springs’ Stevin Horrocks won by decision over Scott Adams of Freeman in the 220 lb. semis, 7-3, to advance to the championship match tomorrow afternoon. Horrocks will now wrestle Caleb Lienemann in the State Championship match.
The consolation semi-finals will begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, followed by the 3rd and 5th place matches. The championship round will begin at 3:00 p.m.
