All the members of the Sheridan County High School rodeo team competed at three rodeos over the last weekend. Rodeos were in Stapleton on Friday, Thedford on Saturday and Mullen on Sunday. This is the second to last weekend for the members to earn points to carry into the state finals the end of the month.
At the rodeo in Stapleton the Sheridan County girls did well in the goat tying. Jessica Bragg was second with a time of 8.5 seconds. Charmayne Strong was third with a time of 8.8 seconds. The event was won by Libby Winchell of Scottsbluff who has dominated the goat tying this year. Charmayne and her pardner Josh Powers of Arthur were also eighth in the team roping with a time of 15.25 seconds. Brock Henry placed sixth in the steer wrestling with a time of 9.3 seconds. The event was won by Brody Cleveland of Keystone.
At the rodeo at Thedford Cody Darnell placed in two events. Cody and his pardner Riley Wakefield of Oneil won the team roping with a time of 9.89 seconds. Cody was also seventh in the tie down roping with a time of 15.89 seconds. The event was won by Tanner Stec of Bassett with a time of 11.78 seconds. Charmayne was second in the goat tying with a time of 8.84 seconds. The event was won by Libby Winchell of Scottsbluff with a time 8.22 seconds. Brock was fifth in the steer wrestling with a time of 9.04 seconds. The event was won by Tanner Freeman of Dunning with a time of 5.92 seconds.
At Mullen on Sunday, Cody and Riley won the team roping with a quick time of 6.76 seconds. Cody and Riley have dominated the team roping this spring winning several firsts. Charmayne placed ninth in the goat tying with a time of 9.86 seconds. The event was won by Libby Winchell again.
Next weekend is the last weekend to earn points to take to state. The rodeos will be closer to home, being at Mitchell, Harrison and Crawford. Good luck, team Sheridan County, as you make the final push for state.
