The Hawks track teams competed in back-to-back track meets Friday and Saturday, but it didn’t seem to affect their performances as they continue to improve and turn in good marks. Friday, the teams traveled to Morrill. The boys squad finished 5th of 15 teams and the girls squad finished 8th.
The highlight for the Lady Hawks team was the two mile relay team took twenty-eight seconds off their time to win the event in 11:00.30. Relay members were Kerisa Marx, Jennifer Scherbarth, Brittany Ferguson, and Jerilyn Scherbarth.
Jerilyn Scherbarth had a good individual day placing in two other events. Scherbarth finished 3rd in the 800 meter run, and 5th in the 400 meter run. Michaela Metcalf also placed in two individual events with a 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 15’ 1/2” and a 4th in the 800 meter run. Rounding out the scoring was Jennifer Scherbarth who finished 5th in the 800 meter run, and Whitney Heiting who finished 5th in the 100 meter high hurdles.
On the boys side, Austin Weyers set a new meet record in the triple jump with a jump of 42’ to win the gold medal, and added a 3rd place finish in the long jump with a jump of 19’7”.
Stevin Horrocks also had a good day for the Hawks winning both the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.86 seconds and the 300 meter hurdles in 42.10 seconds. John Rotness brought home a gold medal for the Hawks in the high jump with a jump of 5’8”. Joey Johnson was the Hawks final placewinner with a 5th place in the 800 meter run in 2:16.
Saturday, the Hawks traveled just a short distance from home for the five team Chadron Invite. The Lady Hawks had many placewinners led by a top three sweep of the girls high jump and second place finishes in the 400 meter relay and two mile relay.
Kerisa Marx won the high jump with a jump of 4’6”, Michaela Metcalf was 2nd at 4’4” and Brittany Ferguson was 3rd with a jump of 4’2”. The 400 meter relay team consisting of Ferguson, Cydney Jancik, Marx, and Whitney Heiting ran a 57.5 seconds for second, and the two mile relay team ran an 11:14 for second place. Relay members were Marx, the Scherbarth sisters, and Ferguson. Jennifer and Jerilyn Scherbarth went 4th and 5th in the 800 meter run, while Jerilyn also finished 3rd in the two mile, and 4th in the mile. The Lady Hawks placed three people in the triple jump. Michaela Metcalf was 3rd with a jump of 30’ 41/2”, Whitney Heiting was 4th with a jump of 28’9” and Cydney Jancik finished 6th with a jump of 26’ 11 1/2”. Metcalf also finished 4th in the long jump.
Throwers Zoe Schneider and Brook Scherbarth placed in both the shot put and the discus. Schneider finished 4th in the both the shot put and the discus while Brook Scherbarth finished 5th in the shot put and 6th in the discus. As a team, the Lady Hawks finished 3rd of 5.
For the boys, six athletes placed in individual events or relays for the Hawks. The only gold medalist of the day was Stevin Horrocks who won the high hurdles in 16.84 seconds.
Horrocks also finished 4th in the high jump. John Rotness edged Horrocks in the high jump finishing 3rd. Rotness was also a member of the 3rd place mile relay team. Other relay members were Chris Ray, Austin Weyers, and Joey Johnson. Weyers grabbed a 2nd place finish in the long jump with a jump of 19’3 1/2”, while Johnson finished 4th in the long jump with a jump of 18’2” and 5th in the 800 meter run.
Jordan Houser rounded out the teams scoring with a 3rd place finish in the 400 meter run and a 4th in the 200 meter run. The boys squad finished 4th of 5 teams.
