Geraldine Mae Bruns, 93, of Rushville, Neb. passed into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Gordon Countryside Care in Gordon Neb. The funeral was held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rushville with Reverend Allan Wierschke officiating. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, Neb. A Prayer Service was held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 6 p.m., at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home of Gordon Neb.

Pallbearers are Derek Bruns, Jason Jacobson, Mickey Retzlaff, Jared Janssen, Ryan May, Nik Young, Cody Hooper, Mike Starke. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Abbott, Lee Sterkel, Bill Sterkel and Kacee Janssen.

Geraldine was born in Howells, Neb. on April 6, 1930, to Blix and Pearl (Moore) Cech. Geraldine attended country school in South Dakota and moved to Nebraska as a young girl. She attended Rushville High School also.

Geraldine entered into Holy Matrimony with Lester Bruns of Rushville on April 8, 1948, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rushville. To this union four children were born: Sharon, Gerald, Vickie, and Judy. They farmed and ranched east of Rushville until retirement in 1994. Lester and Gerry traveled many miles and wintered in Texas and Arizona from 1988 to 2004. They really enjoyed their square dancing and lifelong friends from the RV camps.

Geraldine enjoyed travel, crafts, gardening and family, especially all of her grandchildren. She enjoyed making crayon color boxes and scrubbies to share with everyone. Geraldine was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aide, American Legion Auxiliary, and Tops Club.

Survivors include her children Sharon (Lloyd) Kearns, Gerald (Sandy Schwarting) Bruns, Vickie (Keith) Retzlaff, and Judy (Benny) Janssen; grandchild Lorie Greenman. Amber (Bill) Sterkel, Carie (Lee) Sterkel, Tonie (Cody) Hooper, Angel (Bill) Abbott, Mindie (Mike) Starke, Derek (Melissa) Bruns, Tana (Jason) Jacobson, Mickey (Kourtney) Retzlaff, Jessica (Ryan) May, Jodie Janssen (Nik Young), Jamie (Kacee) Janssen, Jared and (Leah) Janssen; 27 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; her sister Maryellen Bruns and sister-in-law Jerene Heesacker Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and grandson Corri Bruns.
